God created Adam and Eve for a while they lived in harmony. Then they sinned after listening to Satan who cast God's rules as restrictive. The wisdom of Satan seemed right for why would denying someone pleasure and enlightenment be wrong. Eve's decision was supported by her feelings. Even her husband agreed. This is our story, too. We are tempted to rule our own lives. We want to be autonomous. We don't believe God knows best.
THEIR STORY AND OUR STORY
Adam and Eve's choice was one of alternate Lordship. This put all of creation under God's judgment. We have followed suit (Romans 3:10-11, 12, 18). This is our story as well. Therefore, we cannot point a self-righteous finger at those who disagree with us about gender-identify. We all are rebels. We all sin differently. As a result of Adam and Eve's sin they felt ashamed and uncomfortable with their own bodies.
A BROKEN STAGE
Humanity was the pinnacle of creation so it should shock us that Adam's sin affected all of creation (Genesis 3:17-19). Creation is comprehensively broken. Work was hard yet fulfilling but is not hard and often frustrating and futile. We are broken beings that suffer cancer and depression and a host of other things. We die because (Romans 6:23) and we face an eternity outside of Eden and God's presence. The affects of the fall are not just outside of us but within us.
WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR HEARTS
We cannot trust all the feelings and passions within us. Our hearts are not pure (Jeremiah 17:9, 1 Peter 2:11). We are deceived into thinking that we cannot be satisfied in life unless we indulge in all our desires. And it's these desires that cause us to fight with others. This is self-evident since prisons are full of people who acted on impulse and desires. They followed their hearts and passionate desires. Thus our hearts desires can want what is actually bad for our hearts.
People with gender dysphoria experience real feelings and real passions. This is not something to joke about. It is not something to mock. But having that feeling doesn't mean it is right to act upon it. Internal peace is not found in going beyond God's limitations He's placed on us. People who undergo sex-changes are not reported as having higher levels of happiness post-surgery. Genesis 1-3 show us that embracing feelings and thoughts contrary to God results in life that is less happy and fulfilling.
GENDER DYSPHORIA IS NOT SINFUL
There's a difference between an unwanted feeling and acting upon it. Eve didn't sin because Satan tempted her. She sinned when she acted upon that temptation. In the same way, gender dysphoria refers to the mental distress a person experiences as a result of their false perception that their biological sex is wrong. There may or may not be a sinful root cause for those feelings or perception, but the distress itself is not necessarily sinful. The experience of gender dysphoria is evidence that all of our lives are affected by the fall. It is sinful when we let our feelings rule our actions and affections.
THINKING IT THROUGH
It's not just our feelings and actions that are affected by sin. Our logic and mind and reason are tainted by sin as well (Ephesians 4:17-18). Without God our logic is flawed. We need the Creator to understand His creation and our humanity. Our mind and hearts work together. Our heart might desire one thing but our mind might tell us that this thing is bad for us. Sometimes our minds try to justify what our heart wants. This is why an atheist can be clever and blind. He uses his bright mind and logic to reject God because his heart's desire is to reject God. Our minds attempt to tell our hearts whether our feelings are reasonable, but we cannot always be sure that our mind's reasoning is valid.
CAN A MAN CHANGE HIS HEIGHT?
It is absurd to affirm every feeling that someone has about their identity. If someone feels that they are not valuable and that their life is not worth living, would you affirm that?
THE WAY WE'RE PUT TOGETHER
Physical pain is part of life ever since the fall (Genesis 3:16-19). From conception onward, no one experiences life in this body in perfection. Our bodies, feelings and minds are all subject to the fall and thus subject to pain and suffering. So technically we are "born this way" but that doesn't mean we are supposed to act upon our sinful predispositions.
THE BLUEPRINT PERSISTS
God has not given up on His purpose for humanity. He does not just let us rip up the blueprint. Eve in the fall, God did not allow Adam and Eve to fully get their way. He still ruled over them. Humanity can want genderless humans or gender fluidity, but God has not allowed it. We might attempt to change our form, but our formatting has been set by God. It is fixed and unalterable in our DNA. Transgenderism, therefore, is not a real thing because our gender can never change.
The person who feels morally superior and self-righteous to the person with gender dysphoria is feeling sinful things that they must not act up. Feelings of superior righteousness and self-righteousness are deceptions from the heart affirmed by the mind since Scripture says "there is none good. No, not one." That is not to say that we should affirm a person's desires and feelings or actions. We must affirm God's righteous way of thinking, feeling and acting. That is not self-righteousness.
WE ARE NOT LEFT WHERE WE ARE
Our bodies, minds and hearts are beautifully broken things. But God has not left us to remain broken. Genesis 3:15 teaches that a Savior would come to restore us.
